Mountain Stream Elite entered the market in 2012 with an innovative recovery system for athletes – our cold therapy leg wraps. Six years later, our cold leg wraps are now used by professional and recreational athletes from all over Canada, the U.S., Europe, Asia and Australia.
My husband was a self proclaimed “competitive recreational runner” at the time and after his harder runs he would fill up a pair of rubber boots with cold water in the bathtub and then dip his feet in and sit there for 20 minutes. He wanted the recuperative and pain numbing effects of an ice bath but he didn't want to get into one. I don't blame him! However he soon tired of this method and thought that there must be another way to get the same results. From the rubber boots evolved our idea for the cold therapy leg wraps.
Once we made our prototype and tested it, we knew that that we had a unique product that many athletes would appreciate and could benefit from. We wanted the product to be of premium quality so I found a local manufacturer and sourced very durable materials. The end result was a product that stays cold for a long time, covers most of your legs, fits most of the population, folds into a compact size and is easily transportable. Another big goal that we achieved is keeping the cold leg wraps affordable, particularly in comparison to some of the other cryotherapy recovery systems on the market.
I've never been a runner, but I've always led a physically active lifestyle which often leaves my legs tired and sore and in need of cold therapy. While I’m not particularly fond of going into an ice bath, I use our cold leg wraps on a regular basis. For those of you who don’t enjoy ice baths or who don’t have access to ice baths, they're truly a great alternative.
We're proud sponsors of some amazing track athletes who've sought out our products to help with their training. These elite athletes are:
- Chris Winter, a steeplechaser who represented Canada at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio De Janeiro. Chris won the 2014 Canadian XC Championships.
- Lucas Bruchet, an elite middle distance runner and winner of the 2013 Canadian XC Championships. Lucas represented Canada at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
- Dan Gorman, a runner from Halifax, Nova Scotia, who was 4th place in the 1500m at the 2014 Canadian Track & Field Championships.
- Celia Peters, an 800m runner who trains with Halifast Athletics in Nova Scotia. Celia's goal is to represent Team Canada on the world stage.
Many of our customers are using the leg wraps for treating medical conditions, including restless legs syndrome (RLS) and Parkinson's disease.
We can proudly say that we’ve had great reviews of our cold leg wraps and not one pair has been returned! We hope that you enjoy using our cold leg wraps as much as we do!
